Kaitaia Swim Club sent a squad of 10 swimmers down to Kawakawa to compete in the 2013 Northland Rising Stars.

The squad had a fantastic weekend with all the kids swimming personal bests, receiving medals and ribbons, and/or breaking several Northland records. A huge thank you to all the parents who travelled down.

A special thanks to Denise Pure who took on the role of coaching the squad.

The highlight of the weekend was our mixed 14-18-year-old 200m free relay team. Gemma Murray, Stevie Pure, Tashana Pure, and Stefan Hofstede-Burrows not only won gold, but also set a new record in this event.

Stefan Hofstede-Burrows 1st for 50 free, 50 fly and 100 IM* and 100 free. Gemma Murray: 1st in 50 free*, 5th 50 breast, 6th 50 fly and 100 IM, 4th 100 breast and 100 free.

Stevie Pure: 4th 50 fly, 5th 50 breast, 6th 50 free, 7th 50 back and 11th 100 IM. Katrina Matiu: 6th 50 back and 50 breast, 9th 50 fly, 11th 50 free, 8th 100 breast, 12th in 100 back and 100 IM.

Tashana Pure: 1st for 50 fly, 50 back and 50 free*, 3rd 50 breast, 1st for 100 IM, 100 free*, 2nd for 100 back and 100 breast, 3rd 100 fly. Maraea Witana: 2nd 50 breast, 6th 50 fly, 7th 50 back, 5th 50 free, 3rd 100 breast, 8th 100 IM, 9th 100 fly and 12th 100 free.

Ethan Harrison: 6th 50 fly, 9th 50 free, 10th 50 back, 6th 100 back and 10th 100 free. Nina Rose: 1st 50 breast*, 5th for 50 free, 50 fly, 2nd 100 breast, 8th 100 IM and 11th 100 free. Jacinda McCloy: 8th 50 free, 10th 25 fly, 11th 25 back and 12th 25 free. Lana Harrison: 10th 50 free, 8th 25 free, 9th 25 fly and 12th 25 back.
