NETBALL
Meet Fusion, the new team in Mangonui senior netball getting ready for the annual winter tournament competition which got underway in the first cold blow of the year on the South Road courts in Kaitaia last Thursday evening.
The side which had formed over summer, enjoyed mixed results, firstly
beating Houhora but going down to Waipap's premier team in its second game of the night. However, team manager Eleanor Cope Albert said the players, "a mix of talent", were planning on just enjoying themselves in their inaugural season together without worrying what division they'll eventually find themselves in once grading rounds are completed this week.
"It's just a whole heap of good friends, mostly young mums from all over, from Whatuwhiwhi to Ahipara," said Eleanor, noting several in the side were returning to netball having not played since being at intermediate school. On behalf of the team she also thanked the sponsors, four local businesses, for helping the side purchase a flash new pink strip, and also all the supporters.
The Mangonui senior netball teams continue to play the second and final week of grading from 6pm this Thursday (under lights now that daylight saving has ended).
