A young Kerikeri pugilist has been selected into the Auckland provincial team following his effort at a boxing tournament during the weekend.
Finding himself unmatched in his 55kg class, Blake Hodges, who only recently turned 15, opted to step up a weight grade and fight in the 58kg division in
the event in Auckland.
His heavier opponent eventually won 8-3 on a points decision but coach Rusty Porter was impressed and said it was a very good fight.
Hodges' pluck obviously caught the selectors' eye as well and he will fight for Auckland in the 55kg class at the nationals in Auckland in October.
