Houhora

The Houhora Golf Club reported a good turnout last Sunday for the drawn partners event, the BigWither and Don Gordon Trophies, which saw some good stableford scores to match the great mid-winter conditions the Far North has been putting on lately, while the winners, Anne Walker and Brian King respectively, were congratulated as well.

Results from the club's haggle also run on the day were, Frank Hurinui 39 stableford points on countback from Brian King and Neil St George 37, Joshua Clark, Shane Godinet 36, with Russell Hockley and Allan Wright both scoring 35; and a 2 by Len Crewther.

Thanking everyone involved, particularly the players, for such a great response last Sunday, club spokesperson Kyra Rapana advised the competition this Sunday, July 14, was the Norm McDonald Trophy, a nett tournament. Players were asked to be there by 9.30am for a 10am tee-off. And, "Visitors are always welcome to come along and play in our haggle of the day," concluded Rapana.

In a match worthy of the occasion, Terry Saward defeated Rap Stevens in the final of the Okaihau Golf Club's Handicap Matchplay competition on Sunday.

As Stevens later said, "Terry was too steady on the day. He was also equal top scorer on the day in the stableford haggle competition with 43 points alongside Arthur Beren followed by Gordon Ramsay 41, Bob Rosevear, Andrew Maraki 40, Alan Donaldson, Tony Drader 39, Peter Cullen, Alan Spray 38 points, Warren Gould, R Stevens 37, with Trevor Rollinson, Les Rangihuna and Roger Walter all hitting 36; and 2s by Bruce Anderson, Maraki, and Drader, thus the trio also sharing the 2s jackpot.
