One notable aspect during last week's games in the Far North domestic darts competition was the rise and rise of Mussel Rock, this time around recording a 16-nil whitewash over the Kauri Arms Nuggets.

"It's proving a hard ask just to make the starting line up for this team," noted local darts commentator Brian Steed in his round-up of the local games. Elsewhere, there were good signs from Muriwhenua's's Frank Roberts who seems to be regaining control of the darts after winning all his games and hitting the high finish of the night, his best effort since an operation which left him with numb fingers.

Other individuals to stand out in week 11 included Ian Webb in the RSA 3 vs Ngati Bitza match, hitting a string of 100-plus scores and taking three wins from four games, Richard Martin who "has weakened and returned to darts" and hit the highest finish and the most high scores in their match, with only Ted Watts managing to prevent Martin from taking a clean sweep.

At Houhora, the Chiefs came back to take the last two games and win to give them early claim on the Jenny Bradley Memorial Trophy, a best of three series contested between the two local teams; Sid Morris put in a stellar performance for Murrays Bar vs Waipap Two by taking three of his four singles games, only losing the fourth after missing three darts at a double; at the RSA, Collard XL took down the inform RSA Red team with Chris Silich hitting a 180 and taking the prized scalp of Graham Parker; while Waipap 2 had a solid win over an out-of-sorts RSA 1 with Chris Bell hitting three magnificent 100-plus scores under trying circumstances.

Results from June 4 were RSA Red 7 Collards XL 9 (highest score C Silich 180, highest finish Norm Allen 68), RSA One 1 Waipap One 15 (HS J Proctor 140, HF Jo Steed 76), Murray's Bar 5 Waipap Two 11 (HF Syd Morris 69), Houhora Chiefs 9 Houhora Warriors 7 (HS Becca Marinkovich 160, HF Robert Bradley 110), Kauri Arms Nuggets 0 Mussel Rock 16 (HS Gavin Robertson 140, HF Denny Watling 141), Muriwhenua 9 Kaitaia Club 7 (HF F Roberts 144), Ngati Bitza Two 11 RSA Three 5 (HF Calvin Thomas 108), Ngati Bitza 9 Kauri Arms Young Guns 7 (HS T Watts 133, HF R Martin 109).

Draw for tomorrow night, week 12: Kauri 2 v Awanui, Chiefs v Waipap 2, Mussel v Guns, Waipap 1 v Murray's, Muriwhenua v Bitza, XL v RSA 1, RSA 3 v Kaitaia, Bitza 2 v Red, bye: Warriors.

In other news, Jo Steed finished in third place in the Queen's Birthday Weekend Canterbury Open in Christchurch. The winner, Tina Osbourne from Gisborne, is now top of the New Zealand darts ladies' rankings, moving Jo into second spot.
