ALOHA, HOUWAII: Joanne Shalders on sway to first place in the hula shakedown competition which took place during the prizegiving for the Houhora Fishin' Chicks tournament on Saturday night.

ALOHA, HOUWAII: Joanne Shalders on sway to first place in the hula shakedown competition which took place during the prizegiving for the Houhora Fishin' Chicks tournament on Saturday night.

The Houhora Fishin' Chicks contest wiggled its way to another end with the organisers noting the weather was a bit unkind to the 40 ladies and their skippers over the two-day event held last Friday and Saturday.

No billfish were landed this year - with those prizes subsequently made as lucky draws - with Denise Matthews' 'Moet' bringing home the only yellowfin tuna, weighing 11.73kg. Another highlight saw local angler Hine Lelieve taking out a raft of prizes including the heaviest kingfish with a whopping 27.50kg specimen as well as first place for land-based snapper and $500 cash for heaviest kahawai prize.

Juniors Camryn Stewart and Hannah Shalders took out first and third prizes in the snapper section with fish weighing 8.30kg (and it was noted, caught with squid bait on board Snax skippered by Paul Lennon) and 6.04kg respectively.

Saturday's prizegiving concluded with a Hula shakedown, with the $100 club voucher going to Joanne Shalders.

Organiser Debbie Bunn thanked the skippers, anglers and sponsors of this year's event. Results were, Heaviest gamefish: Denise Matthews 11.73kg, 1 (e.g. 1st), Dione Subritzky 7.80kg, 2, Jean Subritzky 7.23kg, 3; kingfish: Hine Lelieve 27.50kg, 1, Tave Barker 12.51kg, 2, lucky angler draw (not advised) 3; trevally: Hannah Shalders 3.24kg, 1, Rachael Stewart 3.14kg, 2, Dione Subritzy 2.79kg, 3; snapper: Camryn Stewart 8.20kg, 1, Tave Barker 6.29kg, 2, Hannah Shalders 6.04kg, 3.
