OKAIHAU. A nett haggle was played at Okaihau on Sunday in conjunction with the Handicap Matchplay qualifying, and the 2nd of the Nett Medal rounds. Results were Mike Cottam & Peter Roux 63, Steve Holford 65, Warren Gould, Troy Alderton, Terry Saward 69, Denis Smith 70, Jack Studd, Darryl Birchall, Dereck Rumble, Andrew Maraki, Arthur Beren, Steve Henderson 71, Cam Birch, Mike Hewer 72. There were 2s for Cam Birch, Andrew Maraki, Mike Hewer and Steve Henderson who also shared the 2s jackpot.

HOUHORA. Sunday golf at Houhora saw the first round of Handicap Matchplay and club captain Cynthia Shailes was pleased to report a good turnout of members despite the weather being a bit on the dodgy side although the rain thankfully held off until everyone was back indoors.

There was bit of a twist to the day's matchplay with 12 visitors from Waiotira Golf Club so organisers decided to run a stableford haggle format in their honour. Thus, the winners for the day were Di Tompkin 42 , Frank Hurinui 41, Lennie Shailes, Tommy 39, Neil St George, Kyra Rapana, Richard Thompson, Tom O'Shea 37, Cynthia Shailes, Shaun Daly and David Mathers 36. Also, nearest pin: Shaun Daly, and a 2 by Mark Lovegrove.

"It was an enjoyable visit by all."

WHANGAROA. Domestic results from Whangaroa for the past week started with the vets' play last Monday (May 11) with men: E Haynes 37, N Olsen 35, S Tansey 34, ladies: J Henry 34, V Moffat, M Tansey 32; also nearest the pin: S Tansey (men), V Moffat (ladies).

Ladies played a putting competition from May 10-13 and results were, silver and bronze 1: F Sherman, V Moffat 28, L Walter, K Graham 31, bronze 2/3: J Saunders 31, J Thompson, 32 J Hooper 35, with a 2 by F Hills. From the mixed haggle last Thursday (May 14), men: C Baldwin 44, J Munro 42, S Tansey 41, P Headland 39, ladies: M Tansey 36, F Hills & J Moffat 33, with 2s for J Munro, W Bridger and Doug Robinson.

Whangaroa also ran its annual Mangonui Hotel Teams Tournament in a multiple stableford format on Saturday where results were, D Sherman, P Cowen, D Collins and I Yardley win with 102 points, followed by runners-up D Brott, T Knight, B Sherman and D Nicholas 93. Special thanks went to Paddy O'Leary for his generous sponsorship. And from the men's nett competition on Sunday, seniors: S Dormer 68, C Baldwin 73, juniors: R Felton 69, N Moffat, S Blagrove 73, with a 2 by S Dormer.

The Whangaroa Golf Club is also preparing to hold its annual Stockies and Cockies tournament on Friday, May 29. The annual tournament is open to teams of four with the entry of $25pp including a meal. The club advised individual entries will be made into teams, while the "awesome" ambrose format will allow non-golfers to play with maximum handicap of 24 for men and 36 in ladies. KAITAIA VETS. The Kaitaia Golf Club vets dodged showers at Ahipara on Monday and ended up enjoying the brisk winter-like conditions. Results were, men: Bill Logan, Vaughan Leach (both with) 32, Terry Shaw 28, Clive Helleur, Bob Robson 26, ladies: Val Simpson, Fay Patterson 30, Elaine Knightbridge 27, Noelene Masters 23 on countback. No twos were, nearest pin No.9 were Helleur (men), and Noelene Robson (ladies), while Leslie Masters won the lucky draw.

KAITAIA MEN. Results from the Kaitaia LiquorKing Tournament hosted by the Kaitaia Golf Club on May 9 were as follows. Men, nett: M Masters 69, J Douglas, S Smith 71, L Shailes 72, stableford: S Courtenay 38, with S Hosseini, J Proctor and J Hincho all 37; ladies, nett: L Busby 65, R Shaw 73, K Rolleston 77, E Hammond 78, stableford: F Smith 37, L Lunjevich 34, J Carnachan 33. Also, 2s M Masters, L Shailes, C Helleur, J Proctor, C Urlich, B Muller, K Rolleston; Nearest pin, No.9: L Shailes, Longest drive (No.5): S Hosseini (men), F Smith (ladies).
