Moko Foundation general manager Deidre Otene is off to the United States, and has a spare seat to give away.

Moko Foundation general manager Deidre Otene is off to the United States, and has a spare seat to give away.

Moko Foundation general manager Deidre Otene will soon be packing her bags for three weeks in the United States, and is keen to take a young Far Northerner (aged 16-25) with her.

Ms Otene will be taking up a Vodafone Foundation scholarship when she leaves on April 1 for Alaska, Washington DC, San Francisco and New York, to look at inter-generational leadership in indigenous settings, while the Moko Foundation has found a sponsor to cover the full cost of a second person.

The person she is looking for will have demonstrated leadership qualities, have a connection to the Far North and aspire to build sustainability and strong leadership.

When they return they will be given opportunities by Moko to use those skills and develop their aspirations to benefit the Far North.

Applications opened yesterday and close on Sunday, Ms Otene saying there would be a good deal to do before boarding the plane. Applications are required in the form of a video downloaded to the foundation's Facebook page.
