Three people injured in Northland car crash

Three people have been injured - one seriously - in a car crash in Northland this afternoon.

Emergency crews were called to Puketona Rd on State Highway 11, near Paihia, at 4.30pm.

One vehicle was involved in the crash.

A northern fire communications spokesman said three people had suffered injuries and had been taken to hospital.

One of those injured was in a serious condition and had been airlifted via rescue helicopter to possibly Whangarei Hospital for treatment, he said.

Fire crews had earlier worked to remove that person from the vehicle, after they became trapped.

The NZ Transport Agency has also issued an alert about the accident on its social media sites.

Motorists are urged to follow directions from emergency services and to drive carefully.
