8 BALL

Week 22 of the Far North Pool Association's weekly pool competition again saw more close encounters at various venues throughout the district last Tuesday.

"By close encounters I mean close scores," noted pool scribe Sharpshooter in his weekly review of the results. The first game he principally referred to was the 6-all draw between Awanui 8 Ball and KA All Day at Kauri Arms Tavern which saw both sides 4-apiece at the turn (i.e. after the singles), before the inevitable played out with Awanui winning the first two doubles and the All Dayers the last two.

At Collard Tavern, hometeam the Hawks lost 7-5 to KA Renegades (5-3 to the Renegades after the singles) in a good night of close games; Waipap Tigers playing on their home turf of Waipap Domain hosted the Here' Boar Hunters who went away very happy in taking the match 7-5 after (4-4 singles); while the Here' Razor Backs hosting the Waipap Maniacs did enough to win 7-5 (6-2) after holding a handy lead from the singles.

"Just maybe these Maniac cue exponents are learning how to play for their mate in winning three games of doubles," Sharpshooter suggested before winding up his results wrap by noting that Titans Black came close to being subdued by the visiting KA Rebels last week, with the Titans leading 5-3 then 6-3 before the Rebels stirred a little to make for 5-6 scoreline, before the last Titans pair did enough in the last match to take a 7-5 win.

The last match Sharpshooter reported on was Titans Blue's comprehensive 10-2 win over Waipap Gold at Waipapakauri: "The main talking point here was the pool tables being relocated within the venue to a more spacious site. The finals day are being held at this venue in late October so a good move for all. Just a bit of table maintenance required though."

Points: Titans Blue 153, All Day 150, Renegades 142, Titans Black 141, Awanui 8 -Ball 137, Razor Backs 132, Spartans 113, Boar Hunters 111, Maniacs 111, Hawks 103, Rebels 99, Tigers 97, Waipap Gold 75.

The draw for week 23/ 26 tonight (with *indicating Sharpshooter's winning picks) is, KA Rebels* v Waipap Gold, Herekino Boar Hunters * v Collard Hawks, KCBC Spartans v Waipap Tigers*, KA All Day* v Waipap Maniacs, Titans Black* v KA Renegades, Awanui 8 Ball* v Herekino Razor Backs, with Titans Blue getting the bye.
