Kaitaia's Whaka Pikau Reo committee is once again taking a very hands-on approach to using Te Wiki o Te Reo Maori as an opportunity to promote everyday use of the language, with encouraging signs of success.

Committee members are out and about in Kaitaia once again this week, offering the appropriate signs to business people, spokesman Wayne Te Tai saying the response had generally been "a resounding aye!"

There were signs too that the annual campaign was having a cumulative effect, some of those who had accepted posters last year keeping them for display once more.

"We're getting a lot of positive feedback, which is very encouraging," he added.
