The investigation into a dog attack on an 8-year-old girl on Taipā Beach has been concluded.

The investigation into a dog attack on an 8-year-old girl on Taipā Beach has been concluded.

Officials have concluded the investigation into a dog attack on an 8-year-old girl on Taipā Beach.

The owner of a dog that attacked the girl on December 18, has surrendered their dog and it has been euthanised.

The girl was hospitalised after the attack on the Far North Beach. The attack came after an unrelated incident a few weeks earlier, which left a 42-year-old local woman with multiple puncture wounds to her leg.

“Collaboration with the public and the Animal Management Officers was key to the swift conclusion of this incident. The investigation file has been reviewed, and no further enforcement action will be taken,” the Far North District Council said in a statement.

“The incident highlights the importance of owners ensuring their dogs are under control at all times. Every dog owner has a responsibility to ensure that their dog does not pose a threat to any persons or other animals, at home and in public spaces, at all times.”

Anyone can report stray or aggressive dogs at any time of day or night by calling the council on 0800 920 029. Please provide as many details as you can including the type of dog involved, the time and location of any incidents. Animal Management staff are on duty throughout the holiday period.
