JUMP THE GUN: Secondary school students from all over the province contested the NSSSA clay target competition at the Kaikohe Clay and Target Club earlier this month.

Whangarei schools dominated the NSSSA secondary schools clay target shooting competition at Kaikohe Gun Club earlier this month.

KGC president Robert Andersen said organisers were very pleased with the turnout of 55 students in the 11 teams representing eight schools, while fine weather accompanied by little or no wind made for a great day's shooting and saw some very good scores recorded.

The Tauraroa Area School Team 1 emerged as the overall winners, with a Whangarei Boys' High team taking second place, and Pompallier College third. Individual standouts included Olivia Hendriks (Pompallier) picking up the highest overall score and winning the girls' division, and Haine Musgrove winning the boys' title.

"It was really great to see so many young people taking part in our sport," said Anderson, adding thanks to the event sponsors for their continued support.

The students who took part in the event as shown in the accompanying image were, Luke Jackson, Cole Rumsey, Daniel Crene, Bailey Brennan, Mikayla Gardner (Kaitaia College); Ira Martinac, Haran Skelton, Cedric Cure; Cameron Leiten, Kurt McCarroll (Tauraroa AS 1); Olivia Hendricks, Guillaume Chevolleau, Jordan Saramet, Anthony Wei, Odin Vasmer-Diecks (Pompallier College); Bligh McClellan, Connie Chaplin, Blair Thomas, Kyrin Carter, Skye Martinac (Tauraroa 2); Justin Caldwell-Smith, Jago Irving, Jake Symonds; Kyle Caldwell-Smith, Jacob Kennedy (Whangarei Boys High); Dylan Thompson, Talia Carter, Carlisa McCarroll, Caitlin Reed (Composite 1); AJ Dickson, Callum Wright, Liam Atkins; Cameron Evans; William Hamlin (WBHS 2); Bailey Hamlin, Lee Holst, Cam Lypton, Sam Allen, Ashton Coates (WBHS 3); Tamon Miles, TC Carter, Allan Craig, Damian Jobe, Hunta Campbell (WBHS 4); Quenten McCarroll, Lucas Horgreaves, Bradley Horgreaves, Cameron Bartlett, Hainee Musgrove (Composite 2); Keegan Hayes, Johnny Wallace, Billy Kiff, Jono Lynch, Tangi Haupere (Composite 3).
