The voting lines for Miss Universe New Zealand have opened and Kaingaroa teenager Priscilla de Groen Hutchinson needs the support of her community.

"Fifty per cent of the final result will be decided by public voting, the other 50 per cent by the judges on the night, so I really need the support of the Far North," the 19-year-old former Kaitaia College student said earlier this week.

Votes can be cast by texting 'Priscilla' to 5484. Texts cost 99, with all profits going to Variety the Children's Charity. Alternatively go to Facebook.com/priscilla.nextmissnz.

There is no limit to how many times any individual may vote.

The field was reduced to 20 finalists, which will be reduced again to 10 before the winner is named in Auckland on October 5.
