He didn't have a name yesterday, a little less than three hours after he was born but the latest arrival at Kaitaia Hospital's maternity wing was the centre of attention.

He arrived at 11.46am on a date that will never be forgotten - 12/12/12, a feat that no one else will be able to aspire to for another century, or New Year's Day 2101 for those prepared to settle for a string of 1s.

And he would have had all the 12s possible if he had one more sibling.

Glenis Matiu, who lives in Kaitaia, is now Mum to 11, three boys and eight girls, ranging in age from 17 years to a day. The latest (and last, she said yesterday) addition to her family weighed in at five pounds 11 ounces, and arrived complete with a fine head of hair. His cousin, Kirishia Matiu, said she had been hoping for a boy, and was quietly confident her new cousin had the look of an All Black.

Mum and baby were planning to check out of the maternity wing yesterday, Glenis saying there was too much to be done at home to stay too much longer.
