Kaitaia's Te Ahu Centre was filled with an abundance of rich colour and heavenly scents recently, in a bid to find the 2021 Northland floral designer of the year.

Kaitaia Floral Art Club held its annual Floral Art Northland Area Designer of the Year event on October 29. The 2021 theme was "Floral Pandemonia".

The event was judged by Kerikeri FASNZ Judge Anne Mackay, and all designs were on display for the public to see the next day.

With months of planning, countless hours of perfecting designs (and a Plan B in case Auckland didn't come out of level 3) the four Northland clubs that make up Floral Art Northland were delighted to present their collective creative efforts to the public.

The attending public were asked to vote for their favourite design, which was awarded to Pat Waters-Knox, of the Kerikeri Floral Art Group, at the conclusion of the event.

Designers in Northland have a reputation of creating innovative designs, and this year was no exception.

The designers' imaginations and creativity showed diversity and originality, much to the delight of the judge, and the public.

A demonstration for floral art members by Lynne Causer, entitled "A Floral Revolution" was a fitting reward for the efforts of the designers and a chance to watch another talented floral artist in action.

The raffles, which were well supported by the public, were drawn at the end of the event and the results published in The Northland Age on Tuesday November 2. All winners were notified.

The floral art clubs are always ready to welcome new members, so for anyone interested in finding out more, contact Raewyn Pennell on: ostemu@gmail.com.

Floral Art Northland acknowledged the funding received from Creative Communities NZ and Te Hiku Community Board to enable the showcasing of this artistic event.
