Initially postponed by Cyclone Lusi, the first leg of the 2014 Northland Secondary Schools Clay Target Shooting Competition finally went ahead at the Kaeo Clay Target Gun Club on Saturday, April 5.

With conditions perfect for shooting, some great scores were posted in the single-barrel event by participating students from Te Kura Kaupapa Maori O Whangaroa, Tauraroa Area School, Kaitaia College, Dargaville High School, Otamatea High School, Ruawai College, Pompallier Catholic College, Whangarei Boys' High School and Whangarei Girls' High School.

The results were, HOA open: Hainee Musgrove 1. Single barrel, boys: Logan Williamson 14/15, 1; Hainee Musgrove 14/15, 2; Vaughan Thompson 14/15, 3; girls: Olivia Hendriks 14/15, 1; Te Waiarani Epiha 12/15, 2; A Caitlin 9/15, 3. HOA, boys: H Musgrove 94/95, girls: T Epiha 88/95.

Teams: Te Kura Kaupapa Maori O Whangaroa (Billy Kiff, Jonathan Lynch, Te Waiarani Epiha, Tiger Rhys Stewart, Tanihaere Houpere) 418/475, 1; Tauraroa Area School Team 1 (Logan Williamson, Hagan Skelton, Ira Martinac, Kurt McCarroll, Daniel Babe) 402/475, 2; Kaitaia College (Luke Jackson, Cole Rumsey, Daniel Crene, Bailey Brennan, Joshua Batty) 360/475, 3.

Results from the hosting club's last monthly domestic shoot will feature in next week's Age.
