Leon Meyer has been missing from Ahipara for more than two weeks.

Leon Meyer has been missing from Ahipara for more than two weeks.

Police in Kaitaia are again appealing for the public to report any sightings of missing 62-year-old Ahipara man Leon Meyer. They are particularly anxious to speak to the driver of a Toyota Hilux who may have been the last person to see him, on Friday March 10.

Mr Meyer's vehicle, a distinctive black two-door Daihatsu Rocky SUV with a red and white design on the driver's door, was found at Shipwreck Bay on March 11. He was last seen wearing black jeans, John Bull work boots and a polo shirt.

Police said yesterday that his bank accounts had not been touched, and they and his family had grave concerns for his welfare.

The best information so far was an unconfirmed sighting of Mr Meyer between 4.30pm and 5pm on March 10, just around the rocks from Shipwreck Bay. A local farmer said he spoke to an unidentified male driving a "tidy" silver four-door flat-deck 2000s model Hilux, who stated that he had seen a person matching Mr Meyer's description.

Police are asking the driver of the Hilux, or anyone else with information, to contact the Kaitaia station urgently on (09) 408-6500, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555-111.
