Police are investigating after a man in his 60s died at Mangawhai Heads.

A man's body has been found on a popular holiday beach north of Auckland this morning.

Police are investigating after a man in his 60s died at Mangawhai Heads.

Senior Sergeant Andy Burdett, of Waitemata Police, said members of the public discovered the man early this morning on the beach and called police.

St John Ambulance were first at the scene just after 8am.

A spokesperson said the man had died at the beach and it may have been due to a medical event.

Police said they making enquiries to establish the circumstances surrounding the
man's death and no further information is available at this early stage.

Mr Burdett said the matter would be referred to the coroner.
