State Highway 1 at Mangamuka Gorge has reopened after a fully loaded logging truck rolled this morning.

The main route in and out of Kaitāia was closed for several hours today.

In an update on NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi’s website at 3.30pm, motorists were advised the gorge was open under stop/go traffic management.

Police earlier said the driver was uninjured.

“Motorists can expect some delays while the scene is cleared,” a spokesperson said.

The hazard was recorded on Waka Kotahi’s journey planner website just before 9am.

The Mangamuka Gorge is the main route in and out of Kaitāia.
