KAITAIA LADIES. Near perfect weather conditions and a course in excellent form set the stage nicely for the Northland 36 Hole Strokeplay Championships, which were held in conjunction with Kaitaia ladies' 18/36 hole tournament in Ahipara on Saturday.
The event attracted 80 players representing 12 clubs from throughout the province,with Denise Pilbrow (Waipu GC) emerging as the overall winner and strokeplay champion in the silver division with a gross score of 162, while the winner of the bronze division was Carolyn Rawson (Ngunguru GC) with a gross of 189.
Organisers were more than pleased to note the other two top placegetters - Lisa Busby and Nancy Gregory - in the 36-holes section were locals, as were the top three in the 18 holes gross, nett and stableford divisions. The results were as follows.

KAITAIA VETS. The Kaitaia Golf Club vets reported a great turnout of 38 players who enjoyed perfect autumn conditions for golfing at Ahipara on Monday morning.
Results were, men: Brian Mulcahy 35, Jim Gardner 30, Peter Hammond 28, Clive Helleur 28, Bob Robson, Bob Pirini, Bill Steed all 27 on countback; ladies: Marg Duncan, Noelene Masters (both) 28, Lyn McCarthny 27, Rosaleen Steed, Rata Masters 26.
There was a 2 by Bill Steed while, for the second in time in memory, nobody could find the 9th green with their tee shots, resulting in by lot win draws to Bob McCarthny and Elaine Hammond, and lucky draw: Vaughan Leach.
