What a team

Our Rotary book fair finished on Saturday. What a great community effort. The money made we can now put back into supporting the community. Pay it forward.

I wish to thank so many wonderful people and to acknowledge the team spirit and fun that each day brought.

Rochelle and staff at Cavaliers, who agreed to our use of the building, which was Lynne's Bookshop; each call or contact was positive and helpful.

Fellow Rotarians, thank you for your help, support and efforts. Percy Erceg, you were on the ball with banking and looking after our volunteers, which they appreciated.

The Northland Age - thank you Peter for advertising and for buying so many books, especially when we were under instructions not to sell you any more.

Once Raewyn Jackson and Meimere Solomon got working, everyone had to watch out. They worked tirelessly and at full speed, stacking, organising, and all the time having fun. Our RSA ladies, Pansy Foster and Freda Donaldson, enjoyed their duties, chatting to people and helping Rotary.

Other names I must mention are Yvonne Smith, Adele Gardner and Fiona Milincinski, who gave their time and enjoyed the friendship of customers as they waded through the thousands of books. Monty Knight had fun making our signs, calling in to shelve a few more books, and bought some every time he was there.

On Saturday morning we planned to pack leftover books, and the effort was daunting, even though we had a strong team. Kaitaia College, you should be very proud of John and Sean Somerville, who were waiting at 9am and worked solidly until after midday.

A young man going past on his skateboard asked if he could help, and at the end of the morning he thanked me, but Joel Cross had just dropped in to help, and obviously enjoyed himself.

Meimere offered to collect her sons to help, and suddenly her whanau arrived. Thank you to every one of you.

What a great community, what great people, and a huge thank you from Kaitaia Rotary .
