Visual pollution

Are the fun police at DOC and our local council, not getting the message? (More vandalism at Tokerau, November 5). There was absolutely no need for an expensive fence to be erected at Tokerau Beach to separate the freedom campers and the day users. There was absolutely no need to erect an expensive lock-up gate at the Ramp Road entrance to the common land between the beach and the pine trees.

This is clearly a whimsical waste of ratepayers' money, and should enrage all ratepayers.

Although not condoning vandalism, I have to, in this case, have sympathy for those who have made this bold statement. The aforementioned edifices are visual pollution of the worst kind, and I as a ratepayer do not wish to see such monstrosities when I go to one of the loveliest beaches in New Zealand.

Ratepayer, Peria
