The article by Joe Carr on Auckland transport (July 4) should be the last nail in the coffin of the NRC if it is representative of the misinformed utter nonsense directing its affairs and misusing our rates.

Northland has a very strong interest in improved road access north from Auckland. That case is totally unaffected, or even strengthened, by progress on the Auckland city rail loop. Eventual implementation of a harbour tunnel incorporating rail is both far off and near irrelevant to Northland's tourist and economic transport needs.

I note that the NRC built an events centre rather than a rail link to the port. It has notably failed to put our money where Mr Carr's mouth is.

In contrast, I commend Mr Sabin's efforts to extend the motorway to Wellsford and Mayor Brown's well-directed criticism of the Wellington bureaucracy's continual assault on the wallets of those who want to build anything.
