World of their own

What a great photo of cyclists with no road sense at all during the start of the C2K ride last weekend (Northland Age, June 26) with some on the wrong side of the road and the ones in the front covering the whole southbound lane.

It was no better leaving Awanui and proceeding towards Kaitaia. I was driving to the airport, approaching the Quarry Road turnoff, and could not believe the complete ignorance of the road rules by a huge number of competitors. They were spread up to five abreast, chatting to each other right out to the centre line with no thought at all about the following or oncoming traffic, thus showing no consideration to other road travellers whatsoever, or for their own safety.

Maybe the cyclists and/or the organisers of this event should have a crash course on riding etiquette before getting on the roads, especially a state highway.
