Spare the rivers

It was so sad to notice the total disregard shown by some person/s near the river, towards environmental pollution (It really is cheaper at the tip, Northland Age, January 20).

I visited New Zealand during 2013 and was in Kaitaia for just over a week. My first impression of New Zealand was a very neat and clean country where residents pride themselves. We drove down to Taipa and all the way back to Kaitaia, and nowhere did I ever see litter alongside the highways. It is such a very impressive and beautiful country.

Why do some people ignore the guidelines set by the local pollution control regarding the discharge of solid waste into rivers, as this is killing all the fishes and other life forms and turning rivers into a large sewer? This is happening in South Africa, and if urgent steps are not taken, there is always the fear of a disease epidemic breaking out.

Whoever this person/s is, I would like to share with you that clean rivers bring goodwill and health for one and all.
