The natural look

As a regular traveller on the Kawakawa to Kerikeri route, I applaud the realignment of the Bulls Gorge road by Transit New Zealand. It has been one of the best changes to roading made in recent years in the Bay of Islands area, and it has been enjoyable to see the plantings start to take shape in the beautification of the area.

Sadly though, the plantings which stabilise the hill next to the realignment are now going backwards at an alarming rate, with gorse taking over. The 'cheerful yellow' flowering of the rampant gorse will soon see its seed spreading all over, making what must be thousands of dollars' worth of planting native plants almost worthless if nothing is done soon.

May as well have planted gorse from the outset to stabilise the hill and saved some taxpayer money perhaps? Or is this the new natural look for Northland?

C'mon Transit, can't you spare a couple of weeders to remove the gorse and keep the area tidy, especially given it is a significant road into Kerikeri?
