Faith restored

I often open the letters column of the Age and end up feeling quite depressed. I would like to share some news of the kindness of people here in the North.

This morning strong gales blew my power connection from my house, causing my TV and water pump to blow and the power to fluctuate wildly. Within 45 minutes Top Energy had sent two technicians (Brendan and Tike) to my house to troubleshoot the problem. What they discovered needed an electrician to repair the damage.

I called Tony Dickey at Above Zero in Kerikeri, who, busy though he was, came straight out and repaired the damaged cable. The Top Energy guys waited until he arrived to restore the power.

This may not seem unusual, but we live almost 10 kilometres up a remote rural road between Kaeo and Mangamuka Bridge, and it is a long way for anyone to travel out.

Big thanks to all you guys for averting a potential disaster and restoring my faith in human nature.
