A happy patient

After my latest admission to Kaitaia Hospital I would like to thank Doctor Carl Marais and his team for the wonderful treatment and respect shown. This also applies to everyone right down to the tea ladies and cleaning staff. What a great, motivated team of people.

Kaitaia Hospital may be limited by politics and funding, but what we have here in Kaitaia is wonderful. More services would be great, but having what we have is something to be proud of.

It is very pleasing to see staff from different races motivated and working together. These people are the real role models our young need in a hope to motivate their siblings and children, in a hope that life holds many promises.

Skin colour has nothing to do with finding the motivation, and the Maori nurses and staff at the hospital are as good as any other races. So thanks again, Kaitaia Hospital staff. You are a great team.

It saddens me to read letters written by BC Gregory, like his letter 'Umbrage taken' (May 27). He appears to be living in the past, believing European people should not encourage the Maori or any other races to be positive and motivated in their thinking and advancement by his attempts to trash others with his negative writings.

How sad it is that we all do not see each other as equal, and encourage and motivate each other, as we all have the world in our own hands, if we do not divide ourselves by negative thinking.

And it is said, it is better to have tried and failed than to never have tried with the chance to succeed.
