My house is close to the Pompallier passage (Pompallier vs walking again, January 4). We are fairly regular walkers along the passage.

Every time we go down to town we are reminded of Third World scenes with garbage, broken glass, graffiti, sometimes obscene, junk food wrappers, empty PET bottles, empty caffeine drink containers, beer bottles.

Quite often we see discarded clothing and footwear, and don't doubt that at night this is a place to beware of.

So we agree with the school and the police, close off both ends of Pompallier passage, and the Vegar Street access. Also close the bridge; it's an accident waiting to happen: It hasn't had a bean spent on it for years.
