A good thing

Again an awesome day at Te Kohanga (Shipwreck Bay) for the 'Surf's Up' day. The sun, the waves and the helpers turned out in force.

Nga Mahi mo te Tangata thank our partners in this good thing we do: Far North REAP, including the boss, turned out in force, provided the food (finally someone understands the importance of lots of caramelised onions for the sausages), and also got into the waves and joined in.

Te Hiku Media pumped the music out across the bay (including the Beach Boys) and the marquee from Te Hauora o te Hiku o te Ika provided much-needed respite from the sun. And of course the Te Kohanga camp trustees for the use of what I reckon is one of the most beautiful spots in the Far North.

To all you helpers who just turned up, thank you. These events only happen because you do turn up. As the Northland Age graciously reported on Tuesday, 12 adults and about 25 kids braved the day, got wet, laughed, or was that the helpers? It was hard to tell. Laughter was definitely the order of the day.

'Surf's Up' comes Kaitaia's way again on March 6 (Thursday) for Far North schools. The posters and general information for this event will be out within a couple of weeks.

Thank you again, to all who contributed.
