Easy options

Once again it would seem a few ratbags in this community dictate a greater influence than they should, and potentially spoil one of the few amusements some of our young people have in Kaitaia - the skateboard bowl.

This area has clearly been identified as a problem area for some time, yet there seems to have been very little thought given to resolving the issues other than closing the area off and shutting it down altogether.

Come on Te Hiku Community Board and you Te Hiku councillors. Don't just seek easy
options like taking away this youth facility. Put your thinking caps on and come up with some ideas and solutions that are not going to cost lots, like relocation or fences that can be an eyesore.

There are many more of our young people who would use this facility if it was made safer. It's up to you people to show some responsible leadership and do exactly that. We have all the laws and regulations in place to do the job. In part, the problem seems to lie with those that are empowered to enforce these laws and regulations.

Don't penalise the responsible youth of our community, because there are plenty of them. The problem can be fixed. It just needs a positive will with some committed initiatives and enthusiasm.
