Bitter pill

Me mihi nui atu ki a koutou ma runga i tenei waa.

As a part-time captain for the Hikurangi Stags I want to take this opportunity to express aroha for Manu and Shane and the men from Takahiwai Warriors. To miss out on this part of the season via decisions made in the boardroom as opposed to outcomes on the field must be a hard pill to swallow. I know from the character of the team that you will all be back next year more determined than ever.

I also would like to tautoko the board and all the work that has been put into this year. I know this decision flies in the face of the value of our local constitution/ rules for Northland league, but the decision is now what it is.

It is often said that without referees we cannot have this game. At a higher level this also applies. Without a board to run and maintain the veracity of the competition, everything would fall apart at the seams.

In my mind you can easily find another person to ref a game. Not so easy to find people willing enough to put time and effort into the role you all play for us all to enjoy the game we love.

Nga mihi nui atu ki a koutou katoa. Ma te Atua taatou e manaaki.
