Kutai guy Founder Zarn Reichardt, with wife Michelle, said this win hits different.

What started as a small Far North food venture has grown into a national success story, with The Kutai Guy once again taking top honours for its signature Sweet Chilli Smoked Mussels.

It was gold for the Kutai Guy for the third year running at the Outstanding Food Producers Awards, whichcelebrate New Zealand’s finest food and non-alcoholic drink producers.

It wasn’t just Sweet Chilli making headlines – every flavour in The Kutai Guy range placed.

Garlic Butter, Natural and Pitmaster BBQ all secured silver, further positioning The Kutai Guy as a standout premium seafood brand.

For founder Zarn Reichardt and his whānau-led team, the latest awards mark another major milestone in what continues to be one of New Zealand’s most exciting seafood success stories.

What began in Houhora as a passion project, built on generations of mussel knowledge, has rapidly evolved into a nationally recognised brand, known for its premium traditionally smoked mussels, authentic storytelling and loyal customer following.

“This one hits differently,” said Reichardt.

“Three straight golds for Sweet Chilli is huge on its own, but to see our full core range recognised on the national stage really validates what we’re building.”

Behind the scenes, Reichardt said the momentum is only accelerating.

“We’re incredibly proud of this, but we’re also seriously focused on what’s next. There’s a lot happening behind the curtain right now – new product developments, exciting ideas and some big moves that we can’t wait to share.”

The Kutai Guy's Sweet Chilli Smoked Mussels have now won Gold three years in a row.

Known for a down-to-earth approach, whānau values and strong connection to Te Tai Tokerau, The Kutai Guy has built its reputation not just on award-winning kai, but on authenticity, consistency and innovation.

For Reichardt and his whānau, this latest gold is proof that a proudly Far North brand can consistently deliver at the highest level, year after year.

“We’ve worked hard to create products people love and this shows the whole range can stand proudly alongside the best.”
