The finals of the Kaitaia Top Field Touch Module last Friday evening provided a fitting finale to another successful season, with a total of eight primary school teams in the social division, and 18 senior teams contesting the open title.
Event coordinator Perry Hanara said an extra field hadto be created to accommodate the increase in numbers this year and it was full go from 4pm to 7.30pm every Tuesday in the weeks leading up to Friday's finale.
"The competition had it all with skill, talent and flair on display week after week, and it was great to see some of the young kids playing alongside their mums and dads, [including] some as young as nine in the senior divisions," he said.
Having so many teams registered meant it was always going to be difficult to make the top four playoffs in each division, but two teams rose to the top and after some impressive hard-fought final games.
Club Fizzz went on to take out the social division title while Giveback won the competitive division.
Both sides were congratulated, as were all the teams who participated this year and had plenty of laughs along the way.
Big thanks on behalf of organisers went to iMoko for supporting the primary schools module, Sports Northland for the use of the gazebo, and Yvette, Gina and Tanya for all their assistance in making for a smoothly run event.
Perry gave an extra big thank you going to all those who put their hands up to referee games.
