Hunting and Fishing prizewinner needs a bigger car

Flowers, wine and some shopping suggestions for Gabrielle Busby from Barry and Shona Judd and the McCoy & Thomas Hunting and Fishing crew in Kaitaia.

Gabrielle Busby might soon be in the market for a bigger car.

She has plenty of time to decide how she will spend her prize at McCoy & Thomas Hunting and Fishing in Kaitaia, but Barry and Shona Judd and their staff had some suggestions when she arrived on Tuesday afternoon after clocking off for the day at Flight Centre, just up the street.

Gabrielle, from Awanui, entered the national pre-Christmas Hunting and Fishing customer draw when she bought a $400 wetsuit on December 31, the last day of the promotion. And it was her name that came out of the barrel.

She now has six months to decide how she will spend $30,000 in the store.

She wasn't sure exactly what she would be putting in her shopping trolley, but as a soon-to-be diver she wasn't likely to have too much trouble. She was also expecting some help from her family; her brother Sean probably already had his eye on a new boat rod and reel for a start, she said.

The one thing that would not be on her list was a bigger vehicle — "We don't sell cars," Barry said, adding that every one of the 37 Hunting and Fishing stores around the country had been very keen to produce the winner.

Each store had also handed over a consolation $1000 shopping prize, Kaitaia's going to an Auckland man, who had yet to claim it.
