Trevor Davidson and John Buckley, with Nate, Cody and Luke McDonald, bought some decent fish to the weigh in station for the Doubtless Bay Rod and Line Club's two-day event May event.

Some great catches were weighed in by local anglers enjoying perfect late autumn conditions in the Doubtless Bay Rod and Line Club fishing contest earlier this month.

John Buckley's 10.66kg (land-based) and 8.84kg snapper conclusively scooped the pool to win the Pisces Cup in the ITM Mangonui two-fish competition which was held over the weekend of May 14-15. Buckley's luck also held in the kingfish division where he came in with the winning specimen at 16.64kg.

Trevor Davidson's 6.34kg land-based snapper, and Luke Macdonald's land-based 6.22kg snapper, were also worthy catches, as was Liz Virgo's 5.82kg snapper caught by boat.

Cody Macdonald landed a 2.06kg fish to win first junior prize, with brother Nate finishing runner up with a 1.36kg fish. A number of notable snapper weighing more than 3kg were also weighed in including Bill Dimento's 3.82kg fish, Rick Stacey's 3.68kg effort and Sidney Mueller's 3.18kg catch.

All round it was a great weekend, the only downside being a degree of confusion about an initial change of dates designed to prevent the event from coinciding with the Totara North competition, for which the club apologised.

The next DBR&LC event is the annual Queen's Birthday Weekend challenge against their North Shore counterparts with members of the Far North club being urged to do their best to retain the trophy won back last year.
