FOUR OF THE BEST: Women's fours champions of Cooper's Beach.

FOUR OF THE BEST: Women's fours champions of Cooper's Beach.

The Cooper's Beach Bowling Club completed its domestic championship fours titles earlier this month.

The report from the event played over the weekend of November 8 and 9 noted the team of Jim Naylor, Trevor Smith, Clive Schaill and Peter Wilson won the men's event which was contested by four teams playing a two life system of four games per day of 15 ends or 1 hour 45 minutes, with no time limit for the final/ possible final.

The Naylors took a life off Denis Hailey, Neill Marr, Pom Kaire and Stu Pederson 14-08; while Dennis Breckon, Bryon Corfield, Ray Thorburn and Brian Hall did the same to Ron Payne, Rod Felton, John McSorley and Steve Barber 20-11.

The Naylors then beat Breckon's bunch 19-3 while the Paynes ended the Haileys' day 17-8. The Breckons defeated the Paynes 22-6 while the Naylors enjoyed a bye to the possible final where they eventually retained their title against the Breckons, 20-10.

Emerging triumphant in the women's section were Dawn King with Ngaire Watts, Glennis Ansley and Margaret Wildbor, in a field of five teams playing under the same conditions as the men. The quartet eventually beat Bunty Barron's team of Glenis Love, Kay McClean and Jean Piesse in a see-sawing final on the second day, 13-12. The other teams in the event were Shirley Marr, Trish Breckon, Patsy Thornton and Barbara Scahill; and Janice Allan, Nancy Page, Pam Roughton and Pat Rayner.
