The organisers of the NAKFA 7-a-side social football competition have issued their traditional challenge to other local sporting organisations to give the gift of sport this Christmas.
Five players from the annual tournament left four footballs as gifts under the Christmas tree in the Kaitaia branch of the Northland Ageon Tuesday.
The balls were purchased from the proceeds of this year's NAKFA (Northland Age Kaitaia Football Association) tournament, a long-running 7-a-side social soccer series in Kaitaia which was established 13 years ago to promote the round-ball game in the district. This year's event is still being completed and due to be wrapped up on Wednesday, December 23, when the final for the knockout cup takes place.
NAKFA organisers plan to use the remainder of the proceeds from this year's event towards getting a women's team representing Kaitaia and districts up and running in the Northland Women's Premier Division next season.
