Suzanne Ludbrook of Kerikeri weighed in the heaviest snapper at the Far North ITM Doubtless Bay Fishing Contest and Auction 2017 over Anniversary Weekend at the end of last month. A bonus for the keen Kerikeri angler was that it was her first ever competition.

Suzanne Ludbrook of Kerikeri weighed in the heaviest snapper at the Far North ITM Doubtless Bay Fishing Contest and Auction 2017 over Anniversary Weekend at the end of last month. A bonus for the keen Kerikeri angler was that it was her first ever competition.

The top prizewinners at the Far North ITM Doubtless Bay Fishing Contest and Auction 2017 from January 28-29 were as follows.

Saturday

Juniors, heaviest snapper: Tarquin Turnbull 4.885kg, trevally: Jai Curel 0.972kg, kahawai: Toru Ki Gregory 2.628kg, sprat: 0.26kg Blake Cox Neho, kohero: Ariki Smith 0.335kg, john dory: T Ki Gregory 2.307kg.
Land-based heaviest snapper: Troy Lydard 7.53kg. Ladies heaviest snapper: Raylene Dent 6.76kg.
Crayfish, heaviest, spiny: Jarrod Meehan 2.65kg, packhorse: Brent Upston 3.82kg; closest to average, spiny (estimated at 1kg): Zane Lidgard 1.242kg, packhorse (2.58kg): Marcus Leslie 2.59kg.
Kahawai: Annette Clements 2.95kg, Kayla Dusevich 2.81kg, K Dusevich 2.76kg. Ugliest: Atareta Pouhaeriti star fish. Trevally: 1.09kg Andrew Jones.
Kingfish: Raku Hori 16.2kg, Megan Knight 16.15kg, Veronica Booth 15.15kg, closest to average (11.363kg): Shaun Gregory 11.95kg. Tuna: none.
Snapper: Mark Sorenson 8.685kg, Walter Neho 8.45kg, Tony Jecentho 8.09kg, closest to average (2.909kg): Karl Grower 2.912kg.
Lucky draw for a trip to Queenstown: not advised.
