Beach crash death

One person died in a single-vehicle crash on Tokerau Beach in the Far North on Friday night. Police were notified of the crash, where a 4WD rolled, around 7.30pm. One person was located deceased at the scene. The two other occupants of the vehicle were airlifted to hospital, one in critical condition and the other in moderate condition. Inquiries into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing.

SH10 work

NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) contractors will begin enabling works to rebuild a section of State Highway 10 from just north of Oromāhoe Rd to south of Porotu Rd from Thursday. Crews will be on site carrying out works, which include service relocation under stop/go traffic management. Drainage work will follow from Monday, November 24 to Friday, December 12. Full pavement reconstruction will take place in the new year, from Wednesday, January 7 to Friday, February 13. Work will be during the day, 7am to 5pm, with stop/go traffic management and a 30km/h temporary speed limit in place. Travel delays are expected to be less than five minutes.

An adopt-a-dog fundraiser for Bay of Islands Animal Rescue will be held at All Good Pet Food shop at 12 Mill Lane, Kerikeri on November 22 from 9am to 1pm. The community event will include fun dog shows, food, bouncy castles for the kids, raffles, and a storewide sale. There will also be a silent auction with a Christmas hamper donated by Puttsgreen Florist. The dog shows will feature best dressed, best trick, waggiest tail, and most loved rescue dog. Proceeds will go to the Bay of Islands Animal Rescue.

Cricket result

Far North Cricket Club’s Granite Heaven Reserve XI travelled to Caledonian park in Waipu to take on Bream Bay CC in round 2 of the Northland reserve grade 40-over competition at the weekend. Winning the toss and batting 1st, FNCC struggled to get momentum in the innings due to good bowling in helpful conditions combined with a slow outfield. A 90-minute rain delay reduced the match to 32 overs but FNCC were all out for 137 in the 29th over, Captain Nilesh Patel top-scoring with 25 and best bowling figures 3-28. BBCC chased down the total in 26 overs for a hard-fought 5-wicket win, with Far North failing to capitalise on a couple of critical chances in the field. The next match will pit FNCC against KensingtonCC at Kensington, Whangārei.
