The Far North District Council has thanked those who applied for the mayoral relief fund Te Tahua Toka Tū Moana - emergency financial support for those impacted by major disasters. The council said there were a “very large number” of applications and it would be in touch once processed. Most applications would receive between $500-$1500. Each will be considered alongside others to ensure fairness, balance and widespread support.

Tree felling

A roadside stand of poplar trees near the western entrance to Kaikohe township will be felled over several days. Appropriate safety cordons will be in place to ensure the safety of reserve and road users.

Jokes on us

Laughter will truly be the best medicine with the Comedy Night Fundraiser for Whangārei-based NZ Sign Language (NZSL) Club Trust. The event at OneOneSix from 6pm on Sunday, May 3, marks 20 years since NZSL became an official language and will raise funds for the trust to deliver its sign language courses. The event will be accessible to all with sign language interpreters, have a baby-sitting room, plus food and ice creams. There will also be door prizes, raffles and auctions. Tickets are $45 from eventfinda.co.nz.
