Oruaiti fundraiserSome good golf and some not-so-good was the order of the day at the Oruaiti School's annual ambrose golf fundraising tournament, which was played on the immaculate greens of the Whangaroa Golf Club back in November.

A belated report from event organisers noted 28 teams made the day, there a lot of fun was had by all while a couple of novelty holes sponsored by local businesses certainly provided a great deal of entertainment.

One saw players taking their shot with a fence batten and with a beanie over their eyes and showed "some people hit better with a batten than their drivers!"; while the other had players forced to stand on a saw horse and hit their golf ball off another, "... that sponsor was called to the tee early on to do running repairs to the sawhorse!"

Also notable along the course during the day was a local beauty company on site to give players a well deserved massage while two other businesses sizzled sausages and yummy meat patties.

While results were perhaps the least important aspect of the day, it was noted last year's winners Farmlands women didn't take the crown this year again (although they did beat the Farmlands men's team again at least); the honour of being the winning team on the day with the best nett score going to the Justaplumber boys.

They were followed by Bob Rouse Builders 2, Greenlea Wilson Hellaby 3; while best gross went to Last Minute Onesies; and the most golf and best dressed prizes went to the Cooper's Coppers.

"A beautiful meal was enjoyed by all back at the clubhouse with meats expertly cooked by Colin Mercer.

The ever-supportive Mangonui Lions club did a great job of the quick fire raffles and the ever-popular auction had items from framed rugby jerseys to flights to Australia to accommodation plants and much more were all sold well by auctioneer Mark Lambeth."

Organisers of the tournament gave special thanks to the many sponsors for making the day a great success, and also to the friends of the school - e.g. parents, grandparents and teachers - for their donations of time help and products. More images from the day as taken by James Culley can be viewed online at, www.oruaiti.school.nz in galleries.
