Few guava moths can resist a pheromone trap.

Few guava moths can resist a pheromone trap.

Guava moths have reportedly been having a field day amongst the feijoas on the Karikari Peninsula of late, but local Panui editor Leena Taylor says there is no need to despair.

Helpful strategies included placing pheromone lures in the garden and collecting all fallen fruit.

"Rotten fruit can go into the compost, well covered, but any that is infected must be disposed of in a way that destroys the infestation," she said.

"Using these methods we have achieved less than 1 per cent infestation."
