Mikayla Gardner was the standout for the Kaitaia Fire Brigade team which travelled to Dargaville to enter two teams in the Northern SUP Association clay bird shooting competition last month.
She ended up claiming the overall women's trophy overall, the Kawakawa Cup, after shooting 9/10, 18/20, 17/20 over her threerounds.
Her overall score of 45/50 finished a close runner-up to the event's top male shooter from Ruawai who shot 47/50.
Teams in the annual event on Saturday, September 4 were made up of part time and non-shooters.
A report from the day said all shooters shot extremely well in the wet and windy conditions.
The Kaitaia team also featured Roger Beatson, Wade Russ, Mark King, Adrian Gleedall with (partner) Pai, Donovan Burrows with Mary Beth, Lucas Scheepers, Apples Archer, Brian Shepherd and Kay Ah Sam.
