Cricketers get season into swing

CAMARADERIE: Kaikohe team members re-establish their bonds as the new season gets under way.

Far North senior men's cricket got the new season under way last weekend, with wins for Kaikohe and Kaitaia.

Kaikohe took to the field at Northland College for their match against the team from Kerikeri.

Kaikohe came out on top with their total runs of 77, winning the game with a slight margin over Kerikeri's 60 runs.

Bibbin was the best bowler for Kaikohe, bagging 4 wickets for 11 runs for the match.

Clark was best batsman overall with his total of 30 runs.

The best bowler for Kerikeri was Webster with 3 wickets for 12 runs.

Peter Barnett from the Far North Cricket Association, who was umpiring the Kaikohe game, said he was pleased to get the season into gear.

"It was a pleasure to umpire this game, which was played in the true spirit of the game."

Kaitaia won their match against Mangonui by default.

The next games on the schedule, to be played on Sunday October 19 are: Kaitaia v Kaikohe at Northland College, and Mangonui v Kerikeri at Taipa.
