A child has died in Starship children's hospital after being struck by a truck in the Far North.

The child was airlifted to hospital with critical injuries after a crash between a truck and a pedestrian on Friday afternoon.

Police was called to the crash on State Highway 1, just north of Houhora, about 3.15pm.

Police continue to investigate the circumstances of the crash.
