SHADOW PLAY: Winners of the Lyn Carter Cup event at the major mixed fours tournament at Cooper's earlier this month were Bunty Barron, Barrie Johnstone, Peter Wilson, and Alan Martin.

The annual Doubtless Bay Mixed Fours Tournament which ran at Cooper's Beach over three days earlier this month attracted 24 teams with players from as far away as Bulls.

Although mornings were a little cooler organisers were blessed with three beautiful warm autumn days. Highlights included a meal of chicken, ham, potatoes and salads served on Wednesday night before the dancing and singing began, while on the Thursday afternoon, a group of women from the Hospice came in to provide afternoon tea as a fundraiser, with organisers pleased to note around $600 was raised.

The top placegetters at the major mixed fours event from Tuesday to Thursday April 5-7, were Leo Marass Trophy, section 1 and overall winners: Jon Young, Ian Holley, Jeune Savage, Annette Young (Kerikeri), Section 2 winners: Chris Salesa, Jill Frazer, Leon Wenzlick, Sam Faaititi (Pakuranga).

George Thomas Trophy, main event: Pat Warth, Dinkie Fischer, Diane Strawbridge, Bill Harris (Kensington), Henderson Tray: Charlie Jellick, Pat Reader, Raewin Jellick, Laurie Reader (Whangarei/ Kamo), and Lyn Carter Cup, consolation event: Barrie Johnstone, Peter Wilson, Bunty Barron, Alan Martin (Kaeo/ Cooper's Beach).

Many thanks went to the club members who provided the prizes for the multi raffle and also the afternoon tea on Tuesday, and salads for Wednesday nights meal.

Appreciation was also expressed to sponsors who help make these big events happen, the women who worked tirelessly in the kitchen over the three days, along with raffle sellers, greenkeeper, bar staff, match committee and all the players who attended, with special praise reserved for Clive Scahill for the sponsorship and raffle prizes he obtained.

COMING UP. The next tournament at Cooper's is the Jim Curry open mixed 2x4x2 pairs on Tuesday, April 26, followed by the Men's Memorial open triples from Saturday to Sunday, May 7-8. Entries for either event to Alan Bright 406-7609, or the club, 406-0330.
