The organisers of the Cape2Kaitaia cycle ride which is being held on Saturday, November 9, said they have received a strong and positive response from the wider community towards the event.

Taking the event back to its grassroots nature and original concept, eg, not to be confused with the major and more competitive Cape to Kaitaia cycle event organised by the Far North Flash sports club, Pat Hira and George Coulson admitted they were quietly chuffed seeing how quickly news of the event spread.

"We have had a 100 per cent good response," said Coulson, referring to the reception the pair had received upon approaching local businesses for support, as well as that from several companies further afield it must be said, and had begun to amass a relatively decent prize pool.

As well, entries from local riders were starting to come in steadily.

However, both asked the local cycling community and other interested parties to declare their intentions of taking part sooner rather than later so they can better organise the complicated logistics involved with such an event well ahead of time.

The event will start from Cape Reinga at 9am and is expected to finish between 1-3pm at the Infinite Scope Gym north of Kaitaia.

Participants can enter for free or pay a $10 fee and get lunch at the prizegiving. For more information, or to register, contact Infinite Scope Gym on 408-3653.
