Whangarei Zonta advocacy groups will celebrate International Women's Day with a breakfast featuring a top Kiwi female researcher.

The breakfast will kick off at 6.45am on March 8 at the Northland Hockey headquarters in Park Avenue, according to Zonta Hatea member Effie Lynts.

Guest speaker Dr Vicki Compton is research director with Uniservices at the University of Auckland.

"We hope to capture their [attendees] imagination with her tales of getting through the glass ceiling," Mrs Lynts said.

Zonta International is a global service organisation of executives in business and the professions working to advance the status of women worldwide.

Since 1993 Dr Compton has undertaken significant research in New Zealand and has worked to ensure technology educational policies, curriculum development and implementation are informed by research findings, she said.

"Vicki is a recognised leader in the field of technology education both within New Zealand and internationally."

Mrs Lynts said anyone is welcome, the cost of $20 includes breakfast. It will also be an opportunity to showcase what Zonta does in the community.
